What Does This Year 10 Maths Test Cover?

This practice exam is deliberately broad. It samples common Year 10 and Stage 5 skills including algebraic equations, quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, right-angle trigonometry, the sine and cosine rules, bearings, direct and inverse variation, rates of change, compound interest, depreciation, quadratic graphs and three-dimensional applications.

Under the current NSW Mathematics K–10 syllabus, Stage 5 uses a Core–Paths structure. Core content builds foundations across number and finance, algebra and equations, ratios and rates, linear and non-linear relationships, trigonometry, geometry, data and probability. Path content can extend students into more complex algebra, graphs, trigonometry, statistical enquiry and other advanced content.

RoSA note: The Record of School Achievement (RoSA) is a record of achievement, not one identical statewide Year 10 Maths examination. Schools can run their own Year 10 or RoSA-style assessment tasks. Always check the exam notification issued by your school.

Revise the Topics You Missed

If a topic was difficult, revise it first and then return to this paper without looking at the solutions.

How to Improve Your Year 10 Maths Exam Result

Do not simply count how many questions were wrong. Group your errors by topic. If several mistakes came from algebra, revise algebra before repeating harder trigonometry or graph questions because algebra is often the hidden skill underneath those topics. For trigonometry, first decide whether the problem is right-angled or non-right-angled, then choose between SOH CAH TOA, the Sine Rule, the Cosine Rule or the triangle area rule.

For finance questions, write the formula before entering numbers into the calculator. For bearings, draw north lines and mark the clockwise bearing before forming a triangle. For quadratic equations, check whether factorisation is possible before moving to a more advanced method.
