How our free maths assessment works

The Aussie Maths Learning Map is designed to identify possible learning priorities instead of producing only another quiz percentage.

Checks year-appropriate maths

The student answers a short set of questions based on the selected Years 1–10 school band.

Checks prerequisite skills

If an important skill is missed, the assessment may step backwards to check an earlier related concept.

Considers confidence

A student indicates whether each answer was confident, uncertain or a guess.

Looks for possible learning gaps

The result highlights skills worth checking further rather than claiming a formal diagnosis.

Supports extension too

Students who appear secure may be directed toward broader or more challenging maths instead of unnecessary catch-up.

Gives free next steps

The final Maths Learning Map links directly to free tests, topic guides and maths games.

Free Maths Assessment FAQs

Important information for parents using the Maths Learning Map.

Is the online maths assessment really free?
Yes. The Maths Learning Map can be used without payment, an account or an email address.
How do I start the free maths assessment?
Choose the student's current school year at the top of the page. The tool then asks for optional parent context before beginning the maths questions.
Why does the assessment sometimes ask an easier question?
If an important current skill is missed, the tool may check an earlier prerequisite to see whether the difficulty could begin further back.
Does the Maths Learning Map diagnose a learning difficulty?
No. It is a short educational screening tool. It does not diagnose a learning disorder or establish a complete mathematical ability level.
Why isn't the result just a percentage?
The main goal is to identify a useful starting point. A short percentage alone does not explain whether a current difficulty may be connected to an earlier maths skill.
Can this help with NAPLAN, OC or Selective maths preparation?
It can be used as a foundation check. It does not predict NAPLAN results, Opportunity Class placement or Selective School placement.
Do I have to book tutoring after using the tool?
No. Families can use the recommended free resources independently. The personalised tutor-led assessment is optional.
