How this free Year 2 maths test was built
The current NSW Mathematics K–10 Stage 1 outcomes are the main curriculum reference. Year 2 does not have a NAPLAN test, so historical Year 3 NAPLAN Numeracy papers were used only to study child-friendly visual layouts, short contextual problems and simple reasoning formats.
All questions, wording, numbers, scenarios and diagrams on this page are independently created. The exam deliberately uses more visual and concrete questions than the later-year papers because Year 2 mathematics is strongly connected to representations, equal groups, measurement, shape, position and data displays.

Year 2 Maths Test NSW FAQs
Do Year 2 students sit NAPLAN?
No. NAPLAN begins in Year 3. This page is a Year 2 NSW curriculum practice assessment, not a NAPLAN test.
Why are Year 3 NAPLAN papers mentioned?
They were used only as a secondary style reference for visual and contextual question formats. The Year 2 curriculum level comes from NSW Stage 1.
What score should a Year 2 student get?
There is no official pass mark. The most useful information is which skills caused repeated mistakes.
When should a student take this test?
It works best from the middle to later part of Year 2 or as an end-of-year diagnostic before Year 3.
Turn the Year 2 score into a practical study plan
Start with the underlying skill behind each error. A student who struggles with place value needs a different practice plan from one who understands number but struggles with time, fractions or reading a graph.
